Schaefer Speaks on Wayfair at Conference of Institute for Professionals in Taxation
On October 1, 2018, Matthew Schaefer addressed the Institute for Professionals in Taxation’s 2018 Sales Tax Symposium in Indian Wells, California, concerning the Supreme Court’s decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair Inc. and its aftermath. Schaefer served as co-counsel to the retailers in the Wayfair case, together with B&I partners George Isaacson and Marty Eisenstein. In addressing the symposium’s general session on October 1, Schaefer discussed the circumstances of the case and the oral argument before the Court, and described the chaos caused by aggressive state enforcement efforts demanding sales tax compliance by ecommerce vendors and multichannel remote sellers post-Wayfair.
