Peter Brann Featured in Maine Public Radio Report on Ranked-Choice Voting

B&I partner Peter Brann addressed the prospect of Maine’s use of ranked-choice voting in the upcoming presidential election in a news piece broadcast on Maine Public Radio on September 22, 2020. The Maine Law Court recently issued an opinion that a ballot initiative seeking to overturn ranked-choice voting in the State did not have enough qualified signatures to appear on the November ballot. While opponents of ranked choice voting could pursue further legal challenges, Brann noted, “Ranked-choice voting has been upheld against any and all federal constitutional challenges.” Brann represented Rep. Jared Golden of Maine’s second congressional district in successfully fending off a court challenge to Golden’s victory under ranked-choice voting in 2018.
