Harvard Law Today Publishes Q&A with Peter Brann on Ranked-Choice Voting

Harvard Law Today has published a Q&A with partner Peter Brann, Ranked-choice voting, explained. In the interview, Brann argues that ranked-choice voting (RCV), which has been adopted in Maine, better ensures that the most popular candidate in any election emerges as the winner. Voters in Massachusetts and Alaska will be deciding whether to adopt RCV statewide in the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 3, 2020.

Brann was counsel to Congressman Jared Golden (ME-2) in a constitutional challenge to the first use of ranked-choice voting in federal elections in the country in 2018. He also wrote a chapter on ranked-choice voting for a book published by the American Bar Association in 2019, “America Votes!” He also regularly co-teaches a course at the Harvard Law School with former Maine Attorney General James Tierney on The Role of the State Attorney General.
