State Tax Notes Publisher Lauds Brann & Isaacson

In the June 27, 2016 edition of leading industry publication of State Tax Notes (Vol. 80, No. 13), Deputy Publisher David Brunori praised Brann & Isaacson’s work in defending the interests of online retailers and remote sellers in constitutional litigation regarding the physical presence “substantial nexus” standard of Quill Corp. v. North Dakota, 504 U.S. 298 (1992). Discussing an appeal filed by Brann & Isaacson in the Alabama Tax Tribunal on behalf of Newegg Inc., in which the retailer challenges an assessment of sales tax under Alabama’s new “economic nexus” regulation, Rule 810-6-2-.90-.03, Brunori wrote:

“This will be a heavyweight battle. Alabama will throw its best and brightest at the case. If it moves on, other states and the legion of anti-Quill folks will no doubt be offering help. But keep in mind that Newegg is represented by Brann & Isaacson LLP. There are few better firms with the skills and experience to defend Quill. If I were challenging Alabama’s new rules, I would hire George Isaacson any day.”

Brann & Isaacson partners Martin Eisenstein, David Bertoni, and Matthew Schaefer join Isaacson in representing Newegg.
