Nat Bessey Discusses the ADA and the Internet with MaineBiz

In a November 11, 2019, article in MaineBiz, “ADA Standards Catch Up With eCommerce, and Lawsuits Are on the Rise,” partner Nathaniel Bessey is interviewed on the recent proliferation of lawsuits filed under the Americans With Disabilities Act claiming that retail and other business websites do not comply with applicable law regarding accessibility. “’There have been thousands of lawsuits filed in jurisdictions across the country,’” Bessey is quoted as saying, including a high–profile lawsuit against Domino’s Pizza which the Supreme Court recently declined to hear. “’Frankly, it’s a risk for anyone doing business on the internet,’” he goes on to say, “’You can be a good business, you want to reach customers,’ but still fall short.” Bessey and other B&I attorneys have been actively involved in consulting with businesses on ADA website issues and defending the firm’s clients against threatened and actual ADA litigation.
